Nesting!

The nesting began at about 36-37 weeks in a different way then I expected... I became a sewing monster. Winter break began from school and I had more time on my hands than ever before. Shawn suggested sewing, as I used to do some back home, and so we found a used one online and purchased it. That was when the obsession began. I think I spent hours everyday for a week sewing. I made burp cloths, a wrap to carry baby, bibs, a swaddle, passy clips, and a car seat canopy. The biggest challenge was fabric. There are no real fabric stores like back home here. There are textile shops, but this is for making their clothing such as kandoras and other traditional dress. I know there are a few places in Dubai, but I didn't feel like making an hour trip to find fabric... so I got creative. I found some cheap sheets at the store, and projects were underway. The other challenge was thread. I bought some at one shop that was awful. It kept breaking in the sewing machine. After visiting a few different places, I finally found some that worked. Yet then... after about a week, I was “sewed” out. It was like I hit a wall. No more sewing. That was when the cleaning began!

My next phase of nesting was cleaning. This started around 38 weeks and went on (I still feel like I should be cleaning!) I went crazy... reorganizing every little nook and cranny in the house, scrubbing all the walls, disinfecting everything you could possibly touch. I washed all the baby things in special detergent, then washed anything else I could. I cleaned the sofas, pillows, rugs... you name it! This place is cleaner than when they first built it, but it is ready for baby! Shawn also helped me get other things ready. We moved the crib into the bedroom and hooked it up to the side of the bed for co-sleeping, as well as moved the glider in our room. We went shopping for our last little bit of things we needed such as a few more bottles and even got a free teddy from Toys-R-Us. Shawn also bought me a pretty new diaper bag that looks like a purse! Now the waiting has begun!
